Attachment to Earth Club

Do you know about attachment styles? Anxious, avoidant, disorganized, secure? How would you describe your attachment style to Earth?

I believe Earth is in danger. Our incredible oceans are overfished, acidified and warm. The large animals we're delighted by in children’s books hardly have a foothold in the wild.

We've inherited a broken system and we're left holding the cards. The scale is immense. Taking personal responsibility can feel like a drop in the bucket. But blaming corporations and billionaires doesn't seem to work. Rather than deflecting and scapegoating, we need an alternative model and change the status quo. I personally need constant reminders otherwise I get swept back into the forceful pull of consumerism.

So I’m trying to start this club called 'Attachment to Earth'. It’s an invitation to shift allegiance once held for country/ political ideology/ personal demographic, *to* an allegiance to EARTH. To strive to honor life equally, use resources wisely, and protect biodiversity. I hope that the club might also be a place to organize artful protest. I'm open to ideas.

I've listed 8 values on a postcard that I can send to you. I think of them as vows to Earth. Like Buddhist vows, I might not practice them perfectly. That’s ok, they’re meant to encourage and reorient me to live a life that’s gentler on the Earth. If ever you find one of these values objectionable or insufficient, I would love to hear your thoughts. I hope they continue to evolve.

The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with the objects it loves.
